3 losses across our senior sides led to a disappointing start to 2018...last week's senior wrap. The 1st XI took on arch rivals Heathmont, the only team to beat us so far. Day 1 was a rain affected day which saw us have Heathmont 5/30 but unfortunately we didn't get the minimum required 20 overs in. As a result day 2 became a one day clash. Batting first the side posted 8/149 with notable contributions from Rees Thomas making 34, Mick Ware 30 and unbeaten 38 by Gus Patti. The total was never going to be enough as Heathmont chased the total 2 down with Jack Conroy and Sean Patrick Nathan taking a wicket each. The 2nd XI travelled to Richmond and this time the day 1 rain interruption favoured us as the 2s found themselves 5/25 after 17 overs. Again day 2 became a one dayer and batting first the side hit 7/153. Tom Raymond and John Raymond were the stars with the bat sharing a 59 run partnership. The 2s would have been quietly confident when Richmond were 7/85 with wickets to Balpreet Singh (2), Tom Raymond (3) and Allan Jago (2). Unfortunately Richmond would go on to win the match. The 3rd XI travelled to Deepdene in a grudge math rematch. Bowling first they restricted deepdene to 153 with wickets shared between Rags, Brad Jago, Harry Ghuman, Matthew Czarnota-Bojarski and Winthur Fernandez. The highlight was definitely seeing the skipper Rahul Sharma pick up at mid on and with one stump to aim at run out an opposition batsman. Things didnt start great with the 3s 2/0 after 2 overs and losing wickets in consecutive balls. Shane Fernandes hit a well made 47 as the team hit 109.At the completion of the round the 1st XI were 2nd, the 2nd XI were 4th and the 3rdXI were 6th.
Unfortunately the Vets have been knocked out of finals by only percentage and last round being heated off to give them a shot at finals.
Currently all junior sides are in the top 4, looking to go deep into finals.
