Once again mixed results for all our seniors sides with the 1s continuing on their winning ways, the 2s getting their first win and the 3s getting small improvements but still chasing their first win.
In a week that saw a prodigal son return to Geelong it was great to hear at selection 3 of our former sons return to the fold in Chuma, Ivan and Jason Brown.
The 1s bowled first and showed no let up as they rolled a hapless Hawthorn for 52. Skipper Rees Thomas leading by example snaring 4 wickets, Mick Ware snared 2 while the old timer wombat got 2 also. The openers came out and smacked it around with Mitch D'Angelo hitting a quick fire 42 and the skipper hitting 10. The boys had banked another win and sit pretty on top of the ladder.
In milestone man Matt Quinn’s 201st game the 2s were determined to make sure they came to the party. Put into bowl the 2s restricted East Malvern to 121 off a reduced 37 overs. It was a real team effort with the ball with Jason Brown and Allan Jago taking 2 wickets, Samuel Nikcevich and Tom Raymond taking 1 each and unlucky not to get 2 with the old man John Raymond dropping a chance behind the stumps. The opening combination of Bourbs and Q made sure there was not going to be any nerves chasing down a small total. The Q man finishing with 54* and getting to lead the team off the field.
The 3s were hoping playing back at home would bring them a win but it wasn’t to be. Bowling first they restricted Trinity Willison to 188 which seemed to be a manageable score on the soccer oval. There was a lot of pressure on a certain leg spinner with people calling for him to be dropped to the 4s, his best is behind him, but he came to play on Saturday and Matthew Czarnota-Bojarski was back taking 4/32.
The chase started slow at 3/16 before Shane Fernandes and Connor Cheney built a well made partnership of 52. Shane scored 23 and Conor 21. Unfortunately they got out soon after and from there it was an uphill battle. The 3s eventually making 8/128.
That’s a wrap for this week. The 1s and 2s are in the 4 after 2 rounds and the 3s will continue to battle away for that first win.
