$3600 TO HOPE HELPS CHARITY

A fantastic day on Sunday at the club saw the Annual Charity Match between ourselves and Wheelers Hill raise $3600 for Hope Helps Charity. This money will be sent to On Trac @ Peter Mac who are a support group for young people with cancer. A special thanks to all of those who helped out and supported the day in some way and a special thanks also to the very generous people who donated items, your support has gone a long way into the money raised.
The day itself was a great day with a big crown in attendance to see the 20/20 match; even the local newspaper was covering the match. After losing the toss we were sent in to bat and posted a very competitive 196. All batsmen got starts and the crowd was kept well entertained by the live microphone work of Paul Souter and Tim Bourbon. Souts had put in a strong night and was able to back up with some very entertaining commentary and live music as players went in to bat.
Action shots from the 20/20. Pommy cuts the ball, Mick Le Grand plays the trusty cut shot and Jono Cannon launches
Wheelers Hill got off to a solid start posting some quick runs before a steady flow of wickets put the game beyond reach and they were all out for 122. The win sees the ledger squared at 1 win each however the Bendigo Bank shield has found its way home and we will be the care takers of it for at least 12 months.
A great day was had by all and it just goes to show what two great cricket clubs can do when they put their heads together. Photos compliments of Cara Le Grand have been posted on the left hand side in the photos section. All involved in the event can be well proud of their efforts to raise the money for a very worthy cause.
We look forward to a third match next season!

COCKTAIL PARTY
Saturday night’s cocktail party at The Precinct was another successful night for the club with over 100 people in attendance. The crowd were kept well entertained by the cocktails provided as well as some very special, and strange, performances on the dance floor. It was an evening that had been built up for a while and certainly didn’t disappoint. A special thanks to Mark Murray and the staff at The Precinct as well as Tim Bourbon for all his organisational work.
Finally 3 votes on the night were awarded to Jono Cannon for bringing 30 people through the door including some very nice looking people, well done Jono!

WEEKEND RESULTS
Some disappointing results over the weekend with only the Thirds and juniors securing victories in an otherwise disappointing cricket weekend.
The first had the job ahead of them against a strong Donvale side. After being dismissed last week for 130 the task ahead was always going to difficult. The ones put up a good effort but were beaten by a better side with Donvale winning the match by 5 wickets. The loss pushes the firsts down the ladder and with some work to do.
In tough conditions last week the seconds posted a competitive 205 at home against top side La Trobe University. Tim Bourbon (64) & Paul Souter (66) lead the way with the bat in an 89 run stand. Unfortunately conditions were a little better this week and the opposition were able to pass us with 5 wickets in hand. The loss pushes the seconds to fourth position and still a very strong chance to play finals.
The thirds continued their good form and posted another impressive victory and have all but assured themselves a finals birth. Resuming at 5/170 the threes posted quick runs to hit 9/253. Dave Cannon (64), Krishan Perera (60) and Paul Scully (38) all continued their impressive run with the bat. With only about 55 overs to bowl the bowlers rallied to the task and achieved victory with 10 minutes to go. Tom Stanley was the best of the bowlers with 4 wickets. The thirds are now placed in third position two games clear of 4th and 5th plus percentage with two games to play.
After a disappointing first week the fourths rallied and were able to hold out and avoid outright. It was a character building effort from the side with much to be taken from this as they hold on to fourth position with a huge game this week against second placed STC. It will be a tight few weeks for the fourths the 3 sides chasing the fourth position we currently hold.
The juniors returned to action on Friday night and posted an impressive 7 wicket win. It was the start of a very big week for Coach Paul Souter who will have the side pumped for this weeks match against Trinity Willison at Frog Hollow Reserve. It was young Jonny Souter who along with Pat McPhee did the job on Friday night to secure the victory and move the side back into finals contention.
